What Are You Choosing Right Now?

A couple of weekends ago, my sweet wife, Celeste and I had something we haven’t experienced in a wee while...

If you’re a parent, you know what that creates. Space.

Space to think. To have conversations that normally get interrupted. To notice what has been sitting beneath the surface. To clear on what comes next...

Space is a magical thing not to take foregranted people!

One of those conversations led us to a simple practice that has had some staying power in our life these last two weeks:

Instead of writing down what we wanted...

We wrote down what we choose.

It sounds small.

But the shift is significant energetically.

Wanting something keeps your future somewhere else... outside of you... always just out of reach.

For years we’ve heard people say:

“I want to grow my business.” “I want more freedom.” “I want to make more money.” “I want more time with my family.”

We’ve definitely said those statements ourselves.

But wanting often leaves the thing just out of reach.

It becomes something we’re chasing.

Choosing is different.

When you choose something, you begin embodying it now.

Your attention changes. Your actions change. Your standards change. Your willingness changes.

You’re no longer hoping life moves in that direction.

You’re participating in creating it.

You are walking the path of choosing it everyday through your actions, words and relationships.

Your business grows from your way of being too.

Most entrepreneurs spend most of their energy trying to choose outcomes.

Grow revenue. Launch the program. Build the website. Raise capital. Hire the team. Those choices matter.

But there’s another choice underneath all of them: Who are you choosing to be while you build?

You can build from stress. You can build from scarcity. You can build from constant urgency.

Or you can consciously choose to build from presence, steadiness, creativity and trust.

The work still needs to get done.

But the experience of doing it changes completely.

In life and business, we don’t always get to choose what happens. Much is out of our control. But we get to choose how we respond, how we rise from disappointment or set-back, and how we move forward from this moment.

Not every business model is YOUR business model.

A client recently came to spend a couple of hours with me in the garden. (that story & breakthrough here)

She arrived wanting to build passive income through an online business. On paper, it sounded logical...

But after talking through her life, her strengths and how she naturally works, it became obvious.

She isn’t designed to spend her life on a computer. That business model and path would burn her out and overwhelm her (quickly).

Not all people are cut out for “working on the internet full-time.”

She loves teaching. She loves being with people. She loves leading transformative experiences.

So instead of designing another internet-heavy business, we created a relationship-based strategy together.

We mapped out a Signature Workshop Tour where she partners with yoga studios and wellness centres, teaches paid workshops, fills her retreats, builds meaningful relationships and spends far less time staring at a screen.

The business became more aligned.

That conversation reminded us how often people try to force themselves into someone else’s model because they think it’s what success is supposed to look like.

The choice is ultimately yours’ though... so listen deeply.

Celeste experienced the same thing.

A couple of years ago, Celeste wanted to bring her grief work and wisdom teachings into the world.

She naturally assumed that meant creating a big online business - I mean, it made sense. Her husband was the founder of Majik Media and had been doing this for 20+ years...

Then, after weeks of feeling like she was trying to force something that did not fit her nature, she stopped and asked herself a more honest question.

Do I actually want to spend my life online?

The answer was no. Not at all.

She loves nature.

She loves being with people 1:1 or in tiny groups.

She’d much rather be walking among the trees than sitting behind a computer all day.

That realization was a helpful breakthrough that dissolved her stress and second guessing.

Sometimes the most powerful choice isn’t adding more.

It’s choosing what actually fits your nature.

A simple exercise for You:

Grab a piece of paper.

Take a few quiet minutes.

Imagine everything in your life and business is up for review.

Then ask yourself this one question:

What am I choosing right now?

Be specific.

If you choose wealth, how are you choosing to generate it?

If you’re choosing to grow a team, what kind of team are you choosing to build?

If you’re choosing to lean into relationships, what does that actually look like... and what kind of relationships are you choosing?

If you’re tired, overwhelmed or stuck, what are you choosing instead - for your body, business & nervous system?

Your business choices should serve your life... and your life should be supported by your business.

Your work should support the way you actually want to live.

The clearer your choices become, the easier it becomes to create a plan that moves you toward them.
