We Threw a Play Chi Ball Festival with 2-Weeks Notice
I’ve got to tell you, I’m feeling pretty damn good right now.
Last week, I shared with you that we officially launched a new branch of Majik Media—Play Chi Ball!
Yes, you heard that right. We launched a new sport. And it’s been an incredible journey so far.
It all kicked off when we headed to Vancouver to pick up our first batch of 500 Chi Balls last weekend. From there, we spent three days playing Chi Ball in the streets, even crashing a comedy festival to get the game out to the people. We played outside bars, with strangers, friends, anyone willing to give it a shot. The energy was wild.
And because I clearly didn’t have enough on my plate (ha!), we decided to organize a full-on festival with just two weeks' notice.
Last Sunday was that festival, and it was epic! We put it together with just a small team of three, but we managed to bring our community together. There were kids, adults—everyone came out to play. We sold tons of Chi Balls, which was amazing to see, and the best part? We hosted the first-ever Play Chi Ball Championship.
Right now, I’m proud to say that I hold the world record for both the five-person team game and the two-person team game. Not to brag, but I’m challenging all of you to get your Chi Balls and start practicing because I know you’ll be coming for my title!
What really struck me last Sunday was the simplicity and beauty of this game when enjoyed by a large group of people.
I’ve been creating things on the internet for 20 years, but seeing 120-150 people come together in person to play, laugh, and connect was something else. These little Chi Balls are more than just a game—they’re a connection tool. There’s no politics, no divisions, just the shared goal of keeping the ball in the air. That’s it.
And we all agree on one thing: if the ball hits the ground, no apologies are needed. If you do apologize, well, then no apologizing for that either—that’s the rule!
The day was filled with non-stop fun. We had DJs spinning music, a dance party, and even a Majik Kids audio story zone.
Pulling off a festival like this, with so little time and effort, was nothing short of magic. I spearheaded the whole thing, and despite juggling everything else going on in my life, it all flowed together so easily. We even managed to find 8 different sponsors to contribute from our community, including Guayaki Yerba Mate!
The best part? Everyone left feeling happier, lighter, and more connected.
It’s clearer to me than ever what my mission in life is: through Majik Kids, Play Chi Ball, and all the other projects I’m involved with, it’s all about raising people’s spirits. We’re already planning next year’s Play Chi Ball Festival, which will be a multi-day event, so start practicing!
Having something tangible and physical that we can share with the world, something that brings people together across all ages in a playful, simple, and fun way, is incredibly cool. I’m beyond lit up about where this is all heading.
So yeah, that’s what’s been going on with me. It’s pretty damn cool.

The Joy of Getting Paid to Be Yourself
As creators, entrepreneurs, and coaches, one of the most rewarding journeys is discovering how to align our passions and gifts with how we get paid.
This kind of freedom has been my #1 motivation since dropping out of college and becoming an entrepreneur 20 years ago. It's also something I talk about often inside the Majik Mind coaching community—living in flow, doing what we love, and being rewarded for it.
What is Play Chi Ball?
Chi Ball is a fast, fun, and minimalist hand ball game played with a handwoven wicker ball.
But more than that, Chi Ball has been a vehicle for building community, experiencing more joy, and helping me and the hundreds of others I have shared this game with to reconnect with our innate sense of fun—all while staying active and lighthearted.
I have been playing Chi Ball for over a dozen years, bringing a ball everywhere I go. I have gotten very comfortable with walking up to strangers, asking them if they want to play -- which they usually do and then they LOVE it.
Whether you're an elder, athlete or adolescent this flow state inducing game is fun for all ages & skill levels.
The Magic of Aligning Passion with Work
We’ve all heard the phrase:
“Do what you love, and the money will follow.”
But what does that really mean?
To me, it’s about finding the sweet spot where your unique talents, interests, and passions overlap with a need in the world. It’s a place where work no longer feels like work, where you’re energized rather than drained, and where the impact you make comes from a place of authenticity.
I felt this when we launched our story company and app, Majik Kids. For the last few years, I get to be a part of a massive community of talented artists who are devoted to delivering the most magical audio content to kids, families and classrooms. My son has become both my writing partner and my business partner. What could be more rewarding!?
Well, Play Chi Ball has become another sweet spot for me, where my passions converge.
It’s a way to invite others into a space of fun, movement, and connection.
But it’s also an entrepreneurial venture that will me to integrate everything I’ve learned from my journey in business, media, and community-building.
In my 20 years experience, the majik happens when we can bridge what we love with how we serve others—and then get paid for it.
Turning Passion into Prosperity
When we talk about aligning passions with pay, it’s not just about getting paid to do what you love; it’s about creating something that genuinely improves people’s lives.
With Play Chi Ball, we’re building a community where people can play, laugh, and connect. The business model is designed to be fun, sustainable, and impactful.
We’re launching leagues, festivals, and creating a global community of Chi Ballers who love the game as much as we do.
And we’re doing it in a way that keeps the heart of the mission alive: to inspire joy, play, and community in a world that often takes itself too seriously.
Not to mention, the balls are sustainably harvested and hand woven. They are absolutely beautiful!
Believe it or not, Play Chi Ball also has me making a ton of content for YouTube and Instagram!
I know, crazy, right?
My business partner and good buddy, Mike Rogers is an amazing media-maker and storyteller and together we are giggling our asses off, coming up with fun ways to inspire others to join us in playing Chi Ball (anywhere). Check out his channel @SlowSteading
We're making the kind of content that's fun to make, fun to watch and inspires others to smile and want to play too. It's good stuff.
I am sticking to my guns of 'posting and ghosting' - meaning, I don't want to spend more than the two seconds it takes to post a video. I get in, get out and get on with my fun life!

How to Align Your Passions with What You Get Paid For
If you’re an entrepreneur or creator wondering how to align your gifts with what you get paid for, here are a few insights from my journey:
Embrace Play and Curiosity – Often, the things that light us up are hidden behind what we find fun and playful. Don’t be afraid to lean into your hobbies, curiosities, and quirky passions—these are often the key to unlocking something magical & special.
Serve a Real Need – While passion is important, it has to intersect with a real-world need. Ask yourself, “How can what I love serve others in a meaningful way?” For Play Chi Ball, it is about creating a fun and accessible sport that brings people together.
Community is Everything – Building something meaningful often means building a community around it. Whether through Majik Media, Majik Kids, or Play Chi Ball, everything I’ve done has been focused on fostering connection and engagement. Community doesn't get built on its own, it needs a leader like you to keep calling people in to the circle. It sometimes takes years.
Stay Authentic – The more aligned you are with who you really are, the easier it becomes to attract the right people to your work. Authenticity is magnetic.
Have Fun - Whatever direction you let your creative energy flow, remember to keep it fun. Because the vibe you're putting out will act like a magnet attracting your kinds of people to the thing you can all do together.
