Well, I made a little Canadian comedy sketch about the ridiculous things we entrepreneurs do to grow our businesses, and the terrifying possibility that there might be a much easier way.
Meet two Canadian entrepreneurs:
One has discovered the revolutionary marketing strategy of talking to actual humans.
The other is busy stretching his thumbs, providing value to the algorithm, and trying to get 10,000 followers so he can find his much-needed six clients to pay the bills.
Things get a little awkward when his buddy asks why he’s giving away all his time, ideas, and intellectual property to giant corporations who then charge him money to show that content to the very people who want to hear from him…
“Sheesh, bud… It doesn’t sound as smart, when ya say it like that, eh!”
And then comes the most terrifying marketing suggestion of all…
Scroll your contacts instead of social media.
Start having real conversations with real people who already know, like, and trust you.
No funnel. No lead magnet. No seven-part nurture sequence.
Just a conversation, with your mouth, your ears, and another human being.
Jeeze, bud. Is that even legal in Canada these days?

You might just need a handful of meaningful relationships with people who know what you do, believe in your work, and genuinely want to see you succeed.
People you can collaborate with, introduce to one another, create things with, and help along the way.
And here’s the funny thing…
Your next client, collaborator, or big opportunity might already be in your phone.
So here’s a little challenge for you today.
Pull out your phone. Open your contacts. Scroll through and find three people you haven’t connected with in a while.
Give one of them a call. Ask how they’re doing. Find out what they’re working on. See if there’s something you can do to help them.
You never know what might come from one good conversation.
Find your people. Link arms. Rise together.
And for fuck’s sake, bud… log off social and scroll your contacts instead.
There’s real people in that phone of yours, don’tcha know!?
