Your Forgotten Audio or Course Library Might Be Worth More Than You Think
Many moons ago, I was travelling around teaching more than 500 live meditation workshops and retreats while beginning to produce and sell my first audio meditation library.
I had ZERO audio production experience.
I simply recorded some of my live sessions, packaged them into a library and started selling them.
Truthfully, the recordings sounded like they were made inside a tin can.
There was room echo, background noise and absolutely none of the polish you would expect from a professional meditation experience.
Still, people happily paid $100 for the library because the content was valuable and the meditations were powerful.
Then, on one auspicious day, I met The Great Blairdini, who would go on to become a 15+-year friend, business partner and dream producer.
Blair and I were co-facilitating a breathwork and sound-healing event during one of my tours through Edmonton, Alberta.
We immediately hit it off, so we made plans to hang out the following day and get to know each other better.
At the end of our hangout, Blair bought my meditation library.
A little while later, he came back to me and said:
“Dude, I love what you’re doing and think it’s amazing, but the quality sucks. Can I have a refund? And can I help you take it to the next level?”
He was right.
The content was powerful. The production quality was terrible.
Then fate did its thing.
Blair decided to move to the West Coast, and a few weeks later he was knocking on my door to tell me he had just moved to Salt Spring Island, where we were living.
Over the next 18 months, we rebuilt and produced my entire 50+ track meditation library together.
We recorded professional vocals, added custom composed music, refined every detail and transformed a collection of rough recordings into a world-class audio experience.
Once the library was complete, I started pursuing licensing partnerships.
That one meditation library eventually became the number-one meditation library on Mindvalley’s Omvana app for more than 5 years.
It has now served more than 10 million meditators
Received tens of thousands of four and five-star reviews,
& generated more than $750,000 in purely passive income.
That experience taught me two incredibly valuable lessons.
First, professional production matters.
The quality of an audio experience directly affects how deeply people can receive the message, story, meditation or teaching.
Great production creates trust, emotional immersion and a willingness to return to the experience again and again.
Second, valuable intellectual property can continue serving people and generating revenue for many years when it is packaged professionally and connected to the right distribution and licensing partners.
