Summer is my favourite time of the year. Life tends to feel more like a vacation.
I spend most of my days working in the garden, I swim with my son at least twice day, go for long hikes with my dog, Bonkers, enjoy family dinners in our outdoor living room, and tend to just feel more space for breathing & enjoying the long sunny days.
However, somewhere in the middle of all that summer goodness, another part of my brain wakes up, and I find myself thinking about the fall.
My entrepreneur brain says to me:
We have to prepare for the Fall Harvest!!
After over twenty years of building businesses, coaching entrepreneurs, launching products, producing retreats, writing books, and helping purpose-driven folks (like you) grow meaningful companies, I’ve noticed something remarkably consistent.
Businesses has seasons:
Just like nature, there are seasons for planting, tending, harvesting, and resting.
For me, September through November have almost always been “harvest season”.
People come back from holidays ready to make decisions. Organizations finalize budgets. Businesses begin planning for the new year. There is a collective energy that says, “Okay... let’s build something, learn new skills and create the future we have been dreaming about.”
What I’ve learned, however, is that the entrepreneurs who enjoy the biggest harvests in the fall rarely start preparing in September.
They start in the Spring time… and if you didn’t start in the spring time, then there is no better time than today… which is what this mini-workshop is about:
Inside Majik Mind this week, I wanted our members to stop thinking about making more money and start thinking about becoming Revenue Ready.
Those are two very different things.
Revenue doesn’t usually appear because we hustle harder.
It appears because we’ve done the quiet work of preparing for the harvest.
So I grabbed my notebook and wrote down the questions I ask myself every summer before heading into the busiest season of the year.
I’d encourage you to follow the process laid out below too.
Don’t rush through these. Block off an hour this week. Leave your phone off so you can focus fully on the mission at hand.
By the time you finish, I think you’ll have much more clarity about what deserves your attention between now and the end of the year.
Step 1: Conduct a Revenue Audit
Before you create something new, take an honest look at what already exists.
Sometimes the fastest path to more revenue isn’t creating something new.
It’s giving more attention to what is already working, while letting go of what has become heavy, outdated, or no longer worth the energy.
Journal Questions
What are your current revenue streams?
Which ones deserve more attention as you move into the fall?
What is draining your energy with very little return?
What do you need to stop, simplify, or eliminate?
Are there any new packages, offers, subscriptions, or revenue ideas you’ve been thinking about creating?
Are there any ideas you don’t have complete clarity around yet, but still feel excited to explore?
How are customers/clients currently finding out about you?
Step 2: Explore Your Revenue Opportunities
Trust me, there are a lot of ways your work could generate revenue this fall. The point right now is not to decide. The point is to see what is possible.
Brainstorm every possible revenue opportunity you can think of.
This might include:
Workshops.
Coaching.
Consulting.
Retreats.
Memberships.
Digital products.
Book sales.
Licensing.
Speaking gigs.
Corporate training.
Strategic partnerships.
Affiliate income.
Done-for-you services.
Private intensives.
Masterminds.
Subscriptions.
Anything else that comes to mind…
Once your list is complete, ask yourself:
What excites you the most out of all these opportunities?
What feels the most lit up?
What can you realistically launch within the next 60-120 days?
Which opportunity has the highest income potential with the least amount of complexity?
Which ideas are proven and tested?
Which ideas are experimental, but exciting enough to test out on your audience?
Once you have your list, circle the offers that feel the most aligned and exciting for you to build the rest of your “Revenue Readiness Strategy” around.
Step 3: Get Revenue Ready
Ideas don’t make money. Revenue-ready offers do.
Choose the offers, packages, programs, or products you are considering for this fall and ask yourself how ready they actually are.
Journal Questions
Which offers are actually ready to sell today?
Which offers are not ready yet?
What needs to happen before they are ready?
Does the landing page need to be dialed in?
Does the messaging need to be clearer?
Does the pricing need to be updated?
Do you need testimonials?
Do you need sales emails?
Do you need a follow-up sequence?
Do you need a better onboarding process?
How much time will be required to get each ready to go live?
How will you promote each offer? Make a list of the ways…
Step 4: Build Your Relationship Capital
This is where most of the money you will ever earn comes from.
RELATIONSHIPS!
Not algorithms.
Not random posting.
Not hoping the internet magically finds you because you watched “Field of Dreams” as a kid and thought that if you build it, they will come (cuz they don’t).
Your relationships are EVERYTHING in business (and in life).
Journal Questions
Who do you know that already likes and trusts you?
Which past clients could you reconnect with about what you’re rolling out this fall?
How often are you sending newsletters to stay top of mind and nurture the relationships with the folks who already follow your work? Hopefully often!
Who do you know that you know would be willing to tell their audience if you just mustered the courage to ask them?
Which podcast hosts, organizations, or communities should hear from you in the coming weeks?
Who is an easy pitch for your signature workshop, no matter how big or small their audience is?
Who have you been meaning to reach out to or reconnect with? You know, the ones you keep thinking, “I should reach out to ________.”
Are there people you keep bumping into or hearing about?
What introductions do you need to ask your true allies for?
Who could open one meaningful door for you in the coming weeks?
What conversations need to happen well before Labour Day?
Step 5: Create Your Marketing Readiness Plan
If you have one to three offers you want to sell this fall, people need to hear about them.
Through clear invitations, good stories, useful content, and meaningful conversations.
Journal Questions
How will people hear about your offers?
Where will they hear about them?
What content needs to be created?
What stories do you have that need to be told?
What emails need to be written?
What decks need to be created?
What marketing campaigns need to be designed?
Are there podcast conversations, workshops, or collaborations that could help you tell the right stories?
Are your offers clearly connected to the stories you are sharing?
What needs to happen so the right people can discover what you’re offering this fall?
Step 6: Do a Capacity Check
This was one of the biggest insights from the session. Sometimes the issue isn’t revenue.
It’s capacity.
You may have good ideas. You may have exciting opportunities. You may even have several things that could work.
But if everything happens at once, will you, your team, and your business actually be able to hold it?
Journal Questions
If a flurry of new clients signed up next month, are you ready?
What systems would break?
What needs automating?
What needs delegating?
Is your invoicing or payment system ready to receive money? Pro Tip: This is one of the keys to making. money online (pro tip)
Where is there unnecessary friction in your pipeline?
How much time do you actually have to build your business every week?
Is this a part-time business, a hobby or a full-time business?
Are your expectations aligned with your actual capacity to create & deliver?
What do you need to simplify so you can move forward without overwhelming yourself?
What do you need to let go of?
Who can you hire or what can you delegate, so not everything rests on your shoulders?
Step 7: Design Your Prosperous Fall
By now, you should have a much clearer picture of what is possible, what is ready, what needs work, and what needs to be simplified.
Now pull it all together.
Journal Questions
What are your top priorities for this fall?
What are the top offers, packages, programs, or products you want to focus on?
Which three relationships will you connect with this week?
What are three actions you can take in the next seven days to move this forward?
What is one thing you are committed to letting go of?
What needs to be simplified?
What do you want your business to look like by December 31?
What would make this fall feel prosperous, aligned, and successful?
What are you already proud of NOW?
Now Read Through Your Answers
This is the part many people skip.
Don’t skip it.
Read everything you’ve written from beginning to end.
You’ll probably notice the same themes appearing over and over again.
Offers.
Names.
Opportunities.
Bottlenecks.
The same things that need to be simplified.
Thank God for all that clarity! Hallelujah.
The people who enjoy the biggest harvest this fall won’t necessarily be the ones who work the hardest.
They’ll be the ones who know exactly what they’re building, who they’re reaching out to, what they’re offering, and what needs to happen next.
Take everything you’ve just written:
Make your action-plan (aka 60-120 to-do list),
Keep your phone off,
Get to work building!
You probably can’t, and shouldn’t, do this all alone.
