From Shoulds to Soul Fuel:
Let Love Lead Your Work
Sadly, we don't hear this enough, but: Your Business Is a Love Letter, Not a To-Do List!
There’s a strange tension many creators and entrepreneurs live in—especially those of us committed to doing meaningful work. It sounds like this:
“I know I should be posting more on Instagram.” “I should be more consistent with my newsletter.” “I should finally make those YouTube videos…”
But underneath the shoulds is often a quiet voice saying, “I hate this. I’m drained just thinking about it.”
And yet, we continue forcing ourselves forward, as if success only comes by trudging through things we dread.
But what if should is the red flag? What if should is the signpost pointing us toward misalignment?
That’s what I’ve been exploring lately—in my own business, in my coaching calls, and in the new “Bonkers Breakthrough” walking + coaching sessions I’ve started offering.
The Bonkers Shift
These sessions—modeled after Tad Hargrave’s “puttering sessions”—happen while I’m walking my dog, Bonkers, in the forest. No prep. No slides. Just a call, some fresh air, and a deeper listening to what really wants to happen.
One of the sessions this week illuminated something powerful. A client was exploring new marketing strategies and said she felt done with social media and wanted to shift to YouTube. Great idea, I said. But as we dug in, something surfaced:
“I don’t actually like being on camera. I feel awkward. I second-guess myself constantly.”
There it was. The should.
But then she mentioned how much she loves creating audio transmissions for her newsletter. A-ha! Alignment.
So we flipped the model: Why not record her audio pieces, add beautiful visuals or animations (dragons, in her case), and create artful, audio-based YouTube pieces? Suddenly her energy shifted. Her eyes lit up. Excitement flowed. That one subtle pivot—removing the “should” and leaning into what she loves—unlocked a whole new wave of inspiration.
And the same happened for me.
I realized I love walking my dog. I love coaching. Why not combine them? Now I’m doing paid coaching calls while walking in the woods, in total alignment with my lifestyle. No prep. Just presence.
Let Love Fuel Your Choices
This is the invitation: Stop designing your business around the things you think you should do. Start building it around what you love to do.
Shoulds drain you. Love fuels you.
When you show up from love—when you choose the marketing, the messaging, the medium that gives you energy—your audience can feel it. They don’t just receive content; they receive your radiance. They experience the work that lights you up.
That doesn’t mean every task becomes blissful. But it does mean the core way you show up in your business can come from the wellspring of joy, not obligation. And that joy is contagious. It creates magnetism, momentum, and meaning.
So, let’s flip it.
Grab a piece of paper. Take a breath. And ask yourself: 1. What are the “shoulds” you keep carrying? 2. What’s draining you right now? 3. And what are some ways you could explore realigning your work around what you truly love to do and how you love to show up?
Write your answers down. Feel the shift. Let love lead.
